Visuospatial attention lateralization in volleyball players and in rowers.

2011

In the present study, differences in visuospatial attention lateralization were evaluated in athletes engaged in open- compared to closed-skill sports and sedentary nonathletes. 23 volleyball players (open skill; Italian national level and regional level), 10 rowers (closed skill, Italian national level), and 23 sedentary participants responded to a computerized line-length judgment task. Five lines, differing in the length of their right and left segments, were randomly presented; the respondent made a forced-choice decision about the respective length of the two segments. Volleyball players responded significantly faster; those at the higher competitive level were also more accurate, mak…

COMPARISON OF VERTICAL JUMPING PERFORMANCE AMONG YOUNG SEDENTARY SUBJECTS, BASKETBALL AND VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS

2009

Introduction: The ability to jump high is considered important in a number of sports. It is commonly accepted that the use of the arms increases jump height (I). In particular, in some sport situations such as basketball and volleyball the ability to utilize arm swing is fundamental in order that players may reach the maximum performance. Instead, sedentary subjects are not usually able to utilize efficiently upper-limb motion compare to active people during vertical jumping performance. The purpose of this study was to examine flight time (sec.) [Ft], jump height (cm) [Jh] during vertical jumping by countermovement [CMJ] with and without arm swing in young, sedentary subjects and basketbal…

Effects of a Postural Exercise Program on Vertical Jump Height in Young Female Volleyball Players with Knee Valgus

2022

Background: Although a knee valgus position is related to the increase in injury risk in volleyball players, there is a lack of studies on the relationship between knee valgus and vertical jump (VJ) performance. Hence, the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of a postural exercise program on VJ height in young female volleyball players with knee valgus. Methods: This pilot study included 19 young female volleyball players divided into the following groups: the Valgus Experimental Group (VEG); the Valgus Control Group (VCG); and the Neutral Control Group (NCG). All three groups carried out the same volleyball training program. In addition, only the VEG underwent a 3-month postur…

Muscle Activity During Unilateral vs. Bilateral Battle Rope Exercises.

2015

High training intensity is important for efficient strength gains. Although battle rope training is metabolically demanding, no studies have quantified intensity of muscle activity during this type of training. This study analyzes muscle activity during unilateral alternating waves vs. bilateral waves of battle rope training. Twenty-one volunteers participated in a repeated-measures study on 2 different occasions. Surface electromyographic signals were recorded from the anterior deltoid (AD), external oblique (OBLIQ), lumbar erector spinae (LUMB), and gluteus medius (GM) during bilateral waves and unilateral waves and were normalized to the maximum voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC). Re…

MODERN VOLLEYBALL ANALYSIS AND TRAINING PERIODIZATION

2018

The purpose of this study is to clarify the scientific approach to modern volleyball at men´s high-level and introduce the most influential studies, which still are not very well implemented in the world of volleyball. On individual level, requirements of modern volleyball consist psychological aspects like inner motivational and maintaining the focus during the game, which is difficult because there are a lot of breaks and successful and unsuccessful rallies in every volleyball match. Inner motivated player can push himself easier to the limits of his capacity during the game. Good focus and team routines keep the difference between won and lost rally small so that the player and the team …

A preliminary comparative study on the effects of pilates training on physical fitness of young female volleyball players

2019

Introduction: Volleyball is one of the world’s most popular sports and because of its enormous popularity many studies have been conducted in an attempt to understand the better method training required to develop fitness performance by a volleyball player. Among which, Pilates exercises have also offered new effective methods for increasing strength and enhancing flexibility. However, many studies have looked at the benefits of Pilates-based exercises only for low back pain and improvement of a person’s quality of life. Therefore, the purpose of this preliminary causal-comparative study was to examine the effects of Pilates training on some physical fitness components in young female volle…
